It means that you can call domestic or foreign phones cheaper than BT rates. Basically you ring the 'service' number/gateway, after a short instruction message, you get a fresh dial tone, you then ring the number of your choice with full national or international dialling code. Remember you pay for the call from the moment you connect to the gateway, not from when you reach your desired number! Just Dial were one of the first gateway companies in the UK and have one of the most comprehensive sets of dial-in numbers available. Telediscount are perhaps the best value company you can try. They have many popular destinations available via 0845 2445445 i.e. much of Europe and America. Affinity247 have fifty daytime ( and eleven weekend) destinations available via their 0870 8011520 number. Easy Dial have have over fifty popular destinations via their 0870 1202011 daytime gateway, and about twenty via their evening 0870 7776969 gateway. They also have higher rate numbers to almost everywhere in the world. Pre-dial have over forty destinations from their 0870 0680700 number; plus more from their 0871 5040700 gateway. Just-call have most of the usual destinations available on their access number 0870 0 193193 and do 120 destinations in total
0845 numbers are charged by BT at the same price as a local call. They cost 4p/peak, 1.5p off/peak and 1p at weekends. 0844 numbers are charged by BT at 5p per minute all the time. 0870 numbers are charged by BT at the same price as a national call. They cost 8p/peak, 4p off/peak and 2p at weekends. 0871 numbers are charged by BT at 10p per minute at all times 090- numbers cost from 15p upwards, and considerably more from mobile phones! |
