Virtual Networks

There has been a move in the last two or three years to Virtual Networks. These are mobile phone companies who use one of the four main networks on which to piggy back their services. The best known is probably Virgin who use the One2one (T-mobile) transmitters. They have been followed by Fresh (part of the Carphone Warehouse) and TelecomPlus.

One.Tel use the vodafone network for their virtual service. They only take account customers and so are not suitable for everyone.

Third Generation Networks

The only one actually up and running on the UK mainland is Hutchison's '3' network. We give details of the new Videotalk packages, which are actually excellent value. Note, however that reception is patchy and customer service mediocre!

Digital Radio Phones

Almost all phones in the UK and most of the world use gsm; however there still are other phone types. Dolphin use the tetra digital radio standard and provide a genuine alternative.
